Cranberryfest Mostly Undaunted By Rain

Cranberryfest typically brings 40,000 visitors to Eagle River

The weather didn't cooperate as desired, but an organizer for Cranberryfest in Eagle River said the event went well. 

The event is held the first weekend in October at the Vilas County Fairgrounds.  The Chamber of Commerce's Kim Emerson talked to WXPR's Ken Krall about the two-day event.

Emerson says volunteers were again critical to the success of Cranberryfest and she thanked them all.

Three Lakes Pumpkin Fest Coming Up

Pumpkin Fest is coming up in Three Lakes.

Cranberry Fest is over.  But if you’re ready for another fall celebration, Pumpkin Fest is coming up this weekend.  

  The Three Lakes Fire Department Auxiliary puts on the annual festival to raise money for the fire department.  Spokesperson Spokesperson Mary Babich says last year the group was able to purchase a special boat motor, so crews can fight fires from the water.

Gearing up for Cranberry Onslaught

The festival expects to sell some 10,000 pounds of fresh cranberries.

In spite of a rainy forecast, Eagle River is bracing for some 40,000 visitors to Cranberry Fest. 

Organizer Kim Emerson is busy setting up for the weekend festival. 

“Some of the preparations we’re working on is getting all the big tents set up, we’ve got to get all the crafter booths set up so all the vendors know where their spot is, get the fresh cranberries and craisins set up.”

10,000 Attend Beef-A-Rama

There were plenty of beef roasts, one Weinermobile and lots of visitors.

It's the last description that makes the Minocqua Area Chamber of Commerce folks happy. The 49th annual Beef-A-Rama celebration found large crowds and generally good weather with a bit of rain.

Car Meets Hot Dog

The Wienermobile has arrived in the Northwoods.  

The Madison-based Oscar Meyer sends a small bus shaped like a hot dog on trips around the country.  There are two so-called hot doggers in charge of the wiener-mobile…their aliases are Atta Dog Alex and Sizzlin’ Steve.  Both in their early twenties, they say their day is spent traveling and visiting different events.

The 34th Annual CranberryFest is set for the weekend of October 5 and 6 at the Vilas County Fairgrounds in Eagle River.

Beef-A-Rama Comes To Minocqua For 49th Year

More than 15 thousand people will gather in Minocqua next weekend to pay tribute to.... the beef roast.


For the 49th time, Minocqua merchants say thank you to customers and travelers with "Beef-A-Rama". Initially held in the spring to lure those going fishing, the event moved to the fall and features beef, a parade, crafts, music and demonstrations.

Someone from the Northwoods will have some extra money soon.


The Wisconsin Lottery reports a ticket sold at Dietz Service on county "W" in Manitowish Waters matched all six winning number in the Thursday, September 19 SuperCash! drawing to claim the $350,000 dollar prize.


Winners have 180 days to claim the prize.


SuperCash! is a daily lotto game played only in Wisconsin. The odds of winning SuperCash!'s top prize are about 1 in 1.6 million.
