Three Lakes has completed a detailed survey of terrestrial invasive species in the town.

The data was collected by one individual: Baerbel Ehrig walked and biked 260 miles in Three Lakes last year…on both sides of each and every town road.

Ehrig explains the purpose is to better understand which invasives are present on a local level, and how many of them there are.  And roads are a good place to start.

Credit en.wikipedia.org

Professor Russ Kashian at UW-Whitewater and Professor Andy Lewis from UW-Extension looked at the impacts of connecting second homes with high speed internet. The lack of such connectivity has been cited as a potential loss of revenue in some parts of the Northwoods.

The Phelps town board has asked Vilas county for one more chance to open town and county roads to ATV's.

The board recently approved an ordinance allowing ATV traffic for a two-year trial period. The ordinance would need the approval of the Vilas county board.

Phelps town chair Colin Snook says the ordinance is largely the same proposal that the county board rejected two years ago.

"...basically what we're looking to do is make some connections as proposed to get us out on(county)_"A" and hookup with other trails in connecting counties....."
