More guilty pleas in federal court to Oxycodone distribution in Lac du Flambeau.

U.S. Attorney John Vaudreuil announced pleas from  25 year old Charlie Sunn Meshigaud and 27 year old Andrew Meshigaud, a husband and spouse. They pled guilty in federal court in Madison to conspiring to possess Oxycodone with intent to distribute.

Gas Prices Rise Though Supply Is Ample

The recent spike in gas prices is not only because prices rise for summer travel but because of the turbulent situation in the key oil-producing nation of Iraq.

School Of The Arts One Month Away

July 19-23 the much anticipated annual event "The School of the Arts at Rhinelander". The event passed a half-century last year. Director Lynn Tarnoff and Ken Krall  chatted about some of the offerings this year...

Lynn Tarnoff of the UW- Madison Continuing Education Department and Director of the School of the Arts at Rhinelander. The school is July 19-23 at James Williams Middle School. Kids With Bike Helmets Get Rewarded By Police

Rhinelander kids on bikes could be surprised with a sweet treat if they are wearing bicycle helmets.
Since last week officers on patrol have been looking for kids wearing the safety helmets as part of the "Safety Is Sweet" initiative.

Police Chief Michael Steffes says this is the second year the department has had the campaign...

"....it's very important to us that all kids wear the bike safety helmet as it's the main way of keeping their heads safe while out and about on their bicycles...."

Merrill Company Fined By State For Pollution

The state has obtained a judgment against a metal fabrication facility in Merrill for violations of state pollution control laws.

Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen reports his office fined Merrill Fab, Inc. $60,000 including court costs.
The DNR compliant reports Merrill Fab was classified as a "major source" of air pollution for toluene and xylene. Officials say over exposure to these pollutants can be a serious health threat.

Judge Praises Oneida Co.'s New Courtroom

High praise from a Northwoods circuit court judge about Oneida county's new courtroom.

Oneida county took space on the first floor and converted the area into a modern courtroom, replacing a tiny room which often served as the third courtroom in the courthouse. Visiting judges were often packed into the small room.

Rhinelander Man Seeking End To State Treasurer's Job

He's been the city's mayor, a well-known businessman, a movie actor, a member of the Oneida county board and now he would like to be your state Treasurer. Until, he says, the public  abolishes the job.
 

Rhinelander resident Jerry Shidell has made the statewide ballot this fall as the Libertarian Party candidate for state Treasurer. He gathered the required 2000 signatures to get on the ballot.

Libertarians like Shidell would like to see smaller government, and he says the Treasurer's job has little to do....
