Assembly Ups Campaign Contributions

A Northwoods Democrat doesn't like a Republican action in the Assembly Wednesday boosting campaign contributions for Wisconsin state candidates.


Majority Republicans pushed for a doubling of allowable campaign contributions by individuals. Donors to statewide candidates could give 20-thousand-dollars per cycle, two-thousand to Senate candidates, and a-thousand to Assembly hopefuls. Those limits would be automatically adjusted for inflation in the future. A voice vote was held.

Effort This Weekend To Drain Boats

Boaters can expect to see local volunteers at Northwoods boat landings this weekend wondering if your live well has been "drained".


The "Draining Campaign" is a statewide initiative to get anglers to not take water from lake to lake.

Committee Postpones ATV Decision On County "A"

Whether to allow ATV's in Three Lakes to use busy county road "A" will return to a county committee after they decided they needed to find out more information.


The town board in Three Lakes approved the use of town roads. Other lesser-traveled Oneida county roads are open to ATV use, but Highway Commissioner Freeman Bennett says he has concerns about allowing ATV's on "A". The committee has given Bennett the authority to regulate whether county roads should be open to ATV's, but he says the county "A" corridor between Sugar Camp and Three Lakes is different..

NATC Budget Passes With No Levy Increase

The Nicolet College Board of Trustees has passed a budget for next year that keeps the total tax levy the same as last year.


The local levy stays the same at $20.8 million.


College President Libby Burmaster says they were able to cut one and a half positions from the staff and hold the levy. They have cut 22 staff positions since 2010-11.


She says they were able to find outside dollars...

Analyst Says Gas Prices Should Go Down Soon

Gas prices should be trending downward. That word from Senior Petroleum Analyst for the website gasbuddy.com  Gregg Laskoski.


Northwoods motorists have seen prices above $4.00 a gallon for a couple of weeks. Laskoski says the statewide average is $3.98 today. He says summertime is traditionally a time for higher gas prices, but this spike was caused by a refinery problem..

Peregrine Falcon Hatch Successful At WPS Facilities

Peregrine falcons who like to nest at Wisconsin Public Service power plants have produced seven new baby chicks. The chicks were born at the inside nesting boxes on the roofs of the Weston plant near Wausau and the Pulliam plant in Green Bay.


The birds were banded earlier this month. School kids named the birds Boston Honor, Zippin, Journey, Sky Dancer, P.J., Lacey and Snow.

Oneida Co. Fair Seeking Your Finest Work

Oneida County residents have a chance to put the spotlight on projects they’ve been working on this year, at the county fair. 

Oneida County UW Extension is asking people to submit projects to be displayed and judged at the county fair.  There are youth and senior divisions, as well as one that’s open to everyone.  4H Youth Development Agent Lynn Feldman is hoping people will take advantage of the chance to show their work to others.
