Three Victims In Fatal Oneida Co. Crash Identified

A Minocqua propane truck driver and two young women died in a two-vehicle wreck on slippery U.S. 51 in the town of Cassian Tuesday afternoon.

Killed in the crash was propane truck driver, 22 year old Jeremy J. Ritchie of Minocqua. Two occupants in the passenger car, Justine Ringberg of Bayfield, Wisconsin and Raquel Nunez of New York city were also killed. Both women also were 22 years of age.

Ministry Health Care Finding Rural Doctors With $$ Help

The enrollment period has opened again for medical students to get tuition money from Ministry Health Care.

The Medical Student Loan Repayment program enables students to get up to $200,000 wile they're enrolled in a medical education program. In turn, Ministry asks the student to commit to at least five years practicing at one of the groups' medical facilities.

Medical education program manager Brant Bergeron says this program helps bring in doctors to rural areas, where he says it's difficult to find enough doctors...

Trees For Tomorrow Lands Large Grant

Trees for Tomorrow Tuesday received the first installment of a $60,000, three-year commitment to further education at the Eagle River campus.

TransCanada Corporation provided a matching grant to the $60,000 committed over three years by Wisconsin Public Service Foundation in Green Bay, totaling $120,000.

Trees For Tomorrow's Operations Manager Cheryl Todea says the funds will help Trees For Tomorrow continue its mission...

Montana Sex Offender Released In Oneida County

A convicted sex offender from Montana is living in the town of Nokomis, Oneida county.

 

The Sheriff's Department reports 46 year old Todd Ames will be living at 9862 Siemering Drive. It's listed as Tomahawk, though the address is in the town of Nokomis, Oneida county.

Ames was convicted in Montana of Sexual Assault in 2009. He has had his parole transferred to Oneida county.

Mutual Aid Pact, Memorial Approved For Rhinelander P.D.

Officials said it hopefully will never need to be used...but the Rhinelander city council has approved its portion of North Central Emergency Response Team mutual aid agreement.

The pact enables area full-time police departments to be ready to go should a large problem like a tornado occur in an area. City Council member Alex Young outlines the pact....

Crowd Attends Opening of Boulder Junction Community Center

A new community center in Boulder Junction opened its doors today.  For supporters of the project, it was a long time coming.

It was standing room only at the ribbon cutting as more than 200 people packed the new community center.  But five years ago it wasn’t clear if the center would ever be built.  Voters rejected an earlier proposal for a more expensive building.  With the final price tag coming in under budget at around $2.1 million, Town Chair Charlie Spencer says the investment will pay off.

Artists from all over Wisconsin will gather in March to remind legislators that Wisconsin has a thriving arts community.

Arts Day 2014 is set for March 12 at the new central library in Madison.

Anne Katz is Executive Director of Arts Wisconsin. She says it's the only big arts conference in Wisconsin.....

UW-Superior Rep Says Online Degree Ninth Ranking

Of all the colleges and universities in the nation offering some online degree programs, UW-Superior has ranked ninth in a U.S. News ranking for colleges offering bachelor's programs online.

UW-Superior has been offering distance learning for 35 years. A local university representative , Dan Kuzlik, says the ranking is a bit of a small school versus large schools....
