About 2500 people have been awarded permits to harvest a wolf. The DNR most recently reported fewer than half of those have actually purchased their licenses. But DNR Carnivore specialist Dave MacFarland says that’s nothing unusual.
A Rhinelander volunteer working on Colorado disaster relief has returned home. Carol Miller traveled to northern Colorado after heavy flooding put the area into crisis. For 17 days she supervised nurses at a Red Cross disaster relief center in Denver. She says a lot of the work was preventative. But they did encounter more serious conditions, and numerous cases of altitude sickness.
“When I first arrived there it was pretty intense, because we had a lot of shelters open. So just keeping the people healthy in those shelters and well cared for.”
The Oneida County Clean Waters Action group is hosting a meeting to discuss environmental changes in Wisconsin's Act 1 Iron Mining Law.
Spokesperson Karl Fate says the changes in the iron mining law enacted by the legislature resulted in confusion....
"....we had requests from people to have a briefing on the iron mining law. There were so many changes made with that bill that it's rather mind-boggling to try to sort through it to figure out what exactly happened..."

An Antigo woman was bound over for trial in Oneida county circuit court on two felony charges of public assistance fraud greater than 10 thousand dollars.
33 year old Nicole Young of Antigo was charged in June after an Oneida County Department of Social Services review and a sheriff's department investigation allegedly found Young had received assistance to which she might not have been entitled.
