I am Gary Milanowski and reside in the town of Cloverland near Eagle River, WI. I've been married to Martha Ehlinger for 17 years and together we have three children - Marie (11), Frankie (10), and Matthias (6). For the last 20 years I have worked in the Outdoor Education and Natural Resources field for a variety of government agencies and private not-for-profit education centers in Michigan and Wisconsin.
I was raised and educated in Grand Rapids, MI where I developed a love for music and original radio programming. I went on to study broadcasting at Central Michigan University. From there, I spent two years as music programmer on WYCE 88.1 FM in Grand Rapids doing a show or two per week and assisting on concerts, live performance and fundraising. My time at WYCE showed me how essential a community radio station is for building community.
I moved to the Upper Peninsula in 1992 and tuned my radio dial to the left where I discovered WXPR! My wife and I have been members, supporters and steady listeners since 1997. I enjoy attending the live concert series and seeing the growth of locally produced news and public interest programs that WXPR does so well.
I look forward to becoming more involved with WXPR as a Board Member and advocate for community radio. I hope my involvement in the Eagle River/St. Germain area will serve to bring more membership interest, business sponsorship and live musical events to the listeners of WXPR.
