21st Journeys Marathon Saturday in Vilas County

Eagle River Chamber of Commerce

Thousands of runners and watchers are expected this weekend in Eagle River and Vilas county with the running of the 21st Journeys Marathon.

The event is a full marathon, half marathon and powerwalk and shorter runs along with a kids fun run before the races headquarterd at Riverview Park in Eagle River. Eagle River Chamber of Commerce spokesperson Natalie Spiess outlines the course for the full and half-marathons...

"....the full marathon starts in Boulder Junction by White Birch Lake on Highway "K" and that goes down Highway "K" through Star Lake to East Buckatabon Lake Road in Conover. That picks up the half-marathon which then goes to Hunter Lake Road to Boot Lake road to Highway "G" then back to (Riverview) park in Eagle River...."

Spees says at the Chamber they have a spectator parking map that gives the public an opportunity to watch.

"...spectators are more than welcome at the park. There will be activities at the park all day long. The 10K and 5K race start at 8:00 a.m. There is also registration for those races from 7:00 to 7:45. So if 10K and 5K'ers want to hit the course, so if 10K and 5 K'ers want to sign up there's still time to do that and then hit the course right away...."

Race Packet Pickup is Friday,from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm during the All-You-Can-Eat Spaghetti Dinner at the Northland Pines High School or from 6:00 am to 6:45 am at Northland Pines High School on race day. Sheriff's Department officials are urging motorists to be cautious Saturday morning along the routes being used by runners and walkers.
