Governor Walker this week signed bills this week the provides additional grant assistance and interships to state college students.

Walker also signed a bill creating new positions at the Department of Workforce Development to coordinate and increase the number of student internships available to college students. At Nicolet College, President Richard Nelson says that provision will help students...

".....I think the bill to connect students to internships is fabulous. Particularly a younger student looking for her or his first job, if that resume includes some internship experience, it's a better resume...."

President Nelson says any amount of new money will help, especially students who are on the financial edge...

"....it's surprising how an incident, a blown tire, or a car repair can derail a student who is living week-to-week trying to get through school so we're happy to see that...."

Bills provide more money for the "Wisconsin Grant" program for students who demonstrate financial need. $1 million dollars was put into that fund. Another $320,000 was placed into a fund for emergency grants for students at risk of dropping out due to financial hardship.
