Advisory Referendum Possible In Three Lakes

E.U.Demmer Library

The town of Three Lakes and the E.U. Demmer Library have been meeting regularly to see if a plan for a renovated town office and library can be achieved.

The most recent meeting between the groups is leaving open the idea of an advisory referendum this summer so the public can choose the best options.

Library Board President Vicki Reuling says the board has been working for seven years to meet the needs of the public. At the same time, the town offices next door are being looked at for renovation. A joint venture is being explored. The town board and library board met recently in joint session to see if one building serving both groups is possible says Library Board President Vicki Reuling....

".....that would allow us maybe more room to expand and then we began talking about the possibility of combining efforts and having one building that could house both the town offices and the library....."

One plan, presented by the library is in the $3.7 million dollar range, with a town board plan in the $2.7 million dollar range. Rueling says a referendum is possible so the boards can find out what the public wants. She says the library board feels strongly that they need the input from the public on what they would like to see for the future needs in Three Lakes....

"....so we can find out what the public wants. We know what the town board wants. We know what the library board feels the needs are. The library board feels strongly that we need input from the public on what they would like to see for the future needs in Three Lakes...."

Both boards are meeting again before the town of Three Lakes annual meeting April 19 to see if language can be worked out for a possible August advisory referendum.
