Annual Nicolet College Career Expo Draws Hundreds of Area Students

Jessie Dick

More than 600 middle school students learned about career options Tuesday.

Seventh graders from schools around the Northwoods attended the 4th Annual Nicolet College Career Expo at the Rouman Cinema in Rhinelander. Organizer and Career Coach Patrick Burns says the day was dedicated to students exploring their interests and future career options…

“…there’s actually been a lot of research that shows that students are starting to think about their career paths very early at the middle school age and starting to decide what direction they want to go and it’s really important because if they don’t see the careers early on, it kind of limits their choices. So the more they can see what’s out there the more opportunities that they know are available.”

Seventh graders like Abigail roamed exhibits hosted by more than 20 local businesses and organizations. She says she has a couple career paths in mind…

“…I think I’m going to be a surgeon. I’ve been into medical things since I was a little girl. I’ve been to other stuff to; like the one with the WXPR announcer which was pretty fun. I might take that up when I’m older.”

Businesses and organizations like Superior Diesel, the Rhinelander Police and Fire Department were at the expo.
