Area Chambers Say Winter Tourism is Picking Up

en.wikipedia.org

El Nino hindered the first half of winter halting major fundraisers and tourism for local communities. But with the last couple of weeks dipping into sub zero temperatures and a couple inches of snow area chambers report winter activity is picking up around the Northwoods. Minocqua Area Chamber of Commerce Director Krystal Westfahl says business owners were prepared for the El Nino year, but remained optimistic.

“…we are anticipating that as people see the snow forecast as it’s coming will book the last minute vacations up to our area, but a lot of our accommodations are already filled, but we’re encouraging people to get on the ball and get those last remaining rooms.”

Westfahl says cross country skiers and snowmobilers are back, and anticipates a large crowd for this weekend’s Ice Cold Beer Fest.

The Boulder Junction Chamber of Commerce also reports most of their hotels are booked as snowmobilers continue to come to the area.

People can check trail conditions on their chamber’s homepage. Trail updates are also available at Travel Wisconsin.com.
