Ashland Holds Listening Session in Wake of Recent Storm

Ashland Daily Press

Northern Wisconsin residents are continuing their work in restoring services, repairing infrastructure and assessing damage in wake of Monday night’s heavy rain that’s led to days of flooding and rerouting.

Sections of major state and federal highways like U.S. HWY 2 and 13 leading to Ashland, Bayfield and Iron counties have been closed for nearly a week due to washouts. Ashland Chamber of Commerce Director Mary McPhatridge says a listening session is planned to discuss what their next steps will be…

“…Today there is a listening session at 1 or 1:30 in Ashland at the Ashland County Courthouse. The Governors cabinet, lots of cabinets coming up to Ashland county like the Department of Administration, Department of Revenue, Department of Transportation. They’re having a meeting to figure out what the next move is…”

McPhatridge says if you’re coming from the west from areas like Superior/Duluth or the Twin Cities, HWY 2 is open with no major detours. She says if travelers are coming from Rhinelander take HWY 70 to Hayward up to Drummond to Ashland. She says if you’re traveling from Upper Michigan there’s about 3 hours of detours. McPhatridge says call the chambers for directions if you have plans to travel to Ashland, Bayfield or Iron counties or visit 511wi.gov for up-to-date detours.

The total cost of damage is still to-be-determined for Ashland County.

Bay Day Festival in Ashland and Bayfield’s Festival of the Arts is still scheduled for this weekend.
