Senator Tammy Baldwin is continuing her fight against former staff members of the Tomah Veterans Affairs clinic with new legislation that has passed the U.S. Senate.
The reform is an amendment to the Veterans Acquiring Community Care Expect Safe Services (ACCESS) Act that passed with a larger package of VA funding on Friday. It would prohibit doctors who have been suspended or fired from the Department of Veterans Affairs from working with veterans through any VA community care program.
"When a doctor has been fired or suspended from the VA, he or she should not then be able to care for veterans in the community at taxpayers' expense. This is just common sense."
Republican Senators Jerry Moran of Kansas and Thom Tillis of North Carolina were co-authors on the reforms. The change would also suspend a physician from non-VA care if they are suspended from VA care, and give VA the ability to deny, revoke, or suspend a provider’s eligibility if they see it as necessary to immediately protect the health, safety, or welfare of veterans
