It is said to be a howling good time, but it's also a fundraiser for a very serious cause.
The third annual Bark in the Dark is set for Saturday near Rhinelander.
The fundraiser benefits the regional Relay for Life in the Northwoods, helping cancer patients in Oneida, Forest and Vilas counties.
American Cancer Society Community Development Manager Diane Gies details what they do...
"....it is a Halloween party for you and your pet. Dogs will be enjoying tricks and treats. This is a fundraiser for the Relay for Life events and the Bark For Life events. We have a variety of games, including a scavenger hunt, bobbing for hotdogs for the dogs and bobbing for apples for the owner...."
Geis says there are a multitude of activities, including pet pictures and grooming, for the pets, of course. There will be a Glow Walk for the pets and owners will get a T-shirt.
Geis says it all helps the fight against cancer...
"...the funds provided help the American Cancer Society provide free information and support for people facing that disease and funding cancer research that will help protect our future generations...."
Geis says no one knows more about how important fundraising is than patients who are stricken with cancer. Cost is $15 for one owner and one pet, more for more pets. Registration cost rises the day of the event.

The event is Saturday, October 21 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at TLC Dog Training Facility on Lake Thompson road east of Rhinelander.
