Bell Ringing Wrapping Up, Two Northwoods Areas Set Records

en.wikipedia.org

Collections in the Antigo area by Salvation Army Bell Ringers during the holiday campaign have apparently set another fundraising record.

While some campaigns are still going on, Field Representative Tom Bremer says enough is known that some campaigns did well. He says it appears they will reach their goal of at least getting as much money in as last year.  He says records were set...

".....they did set a new record down in Antigo at $85,000 for bell ringing which is real nice for them and will help the less fortunate. They're up almost $10,000 from last year..."

Part of the record amount in Antigo was a rare gold coin,  worth about $1,200.

Bremer says Eagle River also set a new record at $46,000 to date, while  Minocqua is up about $5,000 from last year. Rhinelander's total was just under $25,000, short of their goal of $35,000. They are hoping more will come in to get closer to the goal.  86 cents of every dollar stays in the local community to support local relief efforts. More information on the Rhinelander effort ishere.

He says one trend which will need to be addressed is many people don't carry as much cash as they once did, opting for debit cards.

Bremer says final results will be available in a couple of weeks.
