Rhinelander's mythical mascot is the centerpiece of a new digital mobile game, the "Hungry Hodag" which has become free to download for Apple and Android users.
Bill Clow from the Rhinelander Chamber of Commerce says the Rhinelander Tourism Marketing Committee felt this type of approach would attract people who want to play the game and find out more about Rhinelander...
".....through our marketing agency, Pilch and Barnett, the decision was made to offer the game. What attracts more people than a free game on your mobile device? So that's what we did, we created this game, "The Hungry Hodag"..."
The Hodag continues to enjoy white bulldogs as it's principal nourishment in this game, says Clow...
".....so the idea is the Hodag starts small and things fall from the sky and there's good things for it and bad things for it. Occasionally there's a white a white bulldog. As we know, Hodags eat white bulldogs to cure them of all their ills...."
Clow says as the player goes through the program it touches on attractions in the Rhinelander area and also provides links to the Chamber's explore Rhinelander website. Clow says they have a sweepstakes going on for people who use the game which includes a Hodag-themed getaway to Rhinelander.
