Bike And Walk To School Day Is May 4

en.wikipedia.org

Wednesday is Bike and Walk To School Day and students in the Northwoods will be participating. This year, Northwoods LEAN, or (Linking Education, Activity and Nutrition) are encouraging young people to be more active. Here's Maria Otterholt from Northwoods LEAN....

".....so we really celebrate physical activity during the month of May. Northwoods LEAN is encouraging that on May 4 by asking all schools in Vilas or Oneida counties and have their students bike or walk to school that morning...."

Northwoods LEAN has partnered with area schools to offer a chance to win $500 by participating in the 100 mile challenge.  Otterholt says the 100 mile challenge finds schools doing physical activities that add up toward reaching a goal of 100 miles worth of physical activity. She says the physical activity pays off in dividends for student's health.

".....schools can have structured activity throughout the day. Maybe having all the students take a walk outside, maybe a bike ride together, and that counts as one mile for their school. The end goal is to get 100 miles for their school that day...."

You should contact Otterholt at the Oneida County Health Department if you have any questions about Bike and Walk To School Day or the 100 mile challenge
