Bike-Pedestrian Trail To Nicolet College Eyed

The possibility exists of  a bike trail along the Wisconsin and Pelican rivers inside the city limits of Rhinelander, but a bike advocate thinks it's time to consider a trail from Rhinelander out to the Nicolet College campus.

Alex Young is a member of the Rhinelander city council and Oneida county board. The city has already approved seeking funding to possibly get a grant for the rivers portion of the trail...

".....this potential project running along "G" to Nicolet College would tie into that city-river trail proposal and provide connectivity to a good cross section of the city linking those two trails together....."

Young says many people already bike to the Nicolet campus just south of town along county "G", but he says it's not safe as there isn't enough room.  He says more than 1,600 vehicles travel "G" each day, so a study would look at ways to make it safer for foot and bicycle traffic along with vehicle traffic. Young says the same stretch of road also leads to one of the most popular county parks at Buck Lake. He says advocates need to look at getting a study done and finding funding sources.
