Blackwell Job Corps Center Has Immediate Openings

Job Corps

A spokesperson for the Blackwell Jobs Corps Center near Laona says they have immediate openings for young people interested in a technical career, and the education is free of charge.

Guidance counselor Lorie Almazan says they can take up to 160 students...

"....we would like to provide an opportunity for young people between the ages of 16 and 24 to come out to the center, have a tour. The program allows them to earn their diploma or GED. Job training skills will help them when they graduate and go out into the work world..."

The Job Corps is a branch of the U.S. Forest Service. Almazan says the main benefit is the cost...

".....if students don't have money to pay for college, this is an excellent chance to come out and explore our job training programs so they can get on their feet when they are ready. They don't have student loans to pay back. This is a federally-funded program...."

She says if students already have a diploma, they can go directly into training for certified nursing assistants, construction laborers, office automation, union carpentry, union masonry and welding.

Almazan says anyone interested can go online to the Blackwell Job Corp website or call 715-674-7670.
