Businesses in Oneida and Vilas county can take advantage of grants to implement or continue worksite wellness programs.

Northwoods Lean--Linking Education, Activity and Nutrition--spokesperson Maria Otterholt says the Worksite Wellness Mini Grants are designed for any sized business in the two counties...

"....that business has 10 employees or 100 employees it doesn't matter, they can apply for that one. That is a worksite wellness grant, designed to help businesses keep employees healthy. and make sure the work place is a good place for them to be going each and every day...."

Those grants are for $500.

A second grant opportunity is for schools in both counties. Called the Garden Based Nutrition Grant, schools can apply for grants ranging from $500 to $1,500. Otterholt outlines the grants..

"....any school in Oneida or Vilas county is eligible for that grant. What it is is a garden based nutrition grant. The school can design or enforce something they already have for gardening. Get a new initiative going so students have access to fresh fruits or vegetables...."

Otterholt says 9 schools have taken part in the project. There's also a Worksite Wellness Toolkit available on the the websiteNorthwoodslean.orgOtterholt works in the Oneida County Public Health Office.
