Camp American Legion Asking To Lease Land In NHAL

www.mywisconsinspace.com

If approved, veterans will have exclusive access to 225 acres of the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest for accessible trails and hunting opportunities.

A public meeting is set for Thursday to get public comment on the amendment to the Forest Master Plan.

Forest superintendent Steve Petersen says Camp American Legion in Lake Tomahawk serves veterans and families who have medical needs. He says the Camp would like to provide other programming for their veterans...

"....about the last 50 years they've done that work on 75 acres. Program growth, serving more veterans, they seek to have some additional acreage so they can provide other programming. For instance one of the things they would like to do is develop some hunting opportunities on this property for veterans...."

The additional acreage would be located west of their facilities in an area around McGrath Lake, along the west shore of Little Lake Tomahawk, including some frontage on Mud Lake.

To make the change the Master Plan would need to be changed, and the meeting this week is part of the public comment period which runs until May 7.

The meeting is from 3-6 p.m. Thursday, April 16 at the Lake Tomahawk town hall. More information is available at the DNR Service Center in Rhinelander by calling Bob Dall.
