The last remaining Camp Fire chapter in Wisconsin celebrates the organization's 100th Anniversary this Saturday at Camp Birchrock west of Rhinelander.

Camp Fire Board President Steve Sauer .....

"....our original charter date is January 20, 1914...."

Camp Fire was American's first nonsectarian and multicultural organization for girls, founded in 1910. In 1975 it became coeducational.

Camp Birchrock was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps has 210 acres with frontage on three lakes. ...

"....the local campfire organization in 1961 took over the operation of Camp Birchrock, which is our last remaining Camp Fire camp in the state. We are also the last remaining Camp Fire Council in the state...."

Sauer says the organization has made it this far with local volunteers working on the board and local donations after a tough time a few years ago...

".....it's been a tough road these last few years, but we've definitely made it...."

The public is invited to the event Saturday from noon to five at the camp off county highway "K".  Food will be provided, and speakers will discuss the camp's history. Walking tours are also scheduled.
