Caution Urged If You Recreate Near Rivers, Flowages

Grandfather Falls in Lincoln county

Beware of rapidly rising rivers, flowages and streams as the unusually warm and wet weather is causing an early March run off. Spokesperson Leah Van Zile...

"....WPS is reminding everyone that as winter comes to an end and we get this rain and the snow is melting that the river flows can increase significantly and we want everybody that is enjoying activities around our hydros and the dams to be sure to always be safe and knowledgeable....."

Van Zile says anyone recreating on or near the waters should be extremely cautious...

"....when the ground is still frozen, warmer weather that is accompanied by the rainfall could significantly increase the river flows. The water runoff can increase rapidly, so anybody enjoying sports around the rivers should be aware of the forecasted weather and river conditions...."

Wisconsin Public Service has a series of dams along the heavily used Wisconsin River. VanZile says they have up-to-the-minute information on their website wisconsinpublicservice.com
