CCC Statue Soon To Unveiled By Trees For Tomorrow

en.wikipedia.org

Trees For Tomorrow in Eagle River has reached 93 percent of the money they sought to buy a statute commemorating the Civilian Conservation Corps workers.

Operations manager Cheryl Todea says they are nearing the end of a project that began a year and half ago....

"....to honor the Civilian Conservation Corps veterans who had a really great impact all over the nation in the late 1930's and '40's..., planting trees, laying railroad ties, building shelters...."

Todea says most people today still walk over bridges and see the work done by those workers decades ago, especially  on state and federal properties....

"....the workers statue is to honor that legacy...the statue is to honor them...and to continue educating people about the importance of taking care of our resources..."

She says the statue will honor the work of the Corps, along with continuing to educate future generations about taking care of the resources.

A dedication is set for June 14. She says certain  donations can honor workers with a plaque. Todea says over half of the money they raised came from CCC veteran Richard Chrisinger from Missouri.
