More people are traveling this holiday season thanks to falling gas prices.
Cheaper winter blends of gas tend to cause a dip in prices every year. But these are the lowest they’ve been in five years, with a statewide average of 2.46 a gallon.
According to Senior Petroleum Analyst Greg Laskoski, a Gasbuddy.com survey finds low gas prices are impacting the plans of about a quarter of travelers.
“With a holiday like Thanksgiving or Christmas, people will always gather with their family and friends regardless of what the price of gasoline may be. But this year I think we are seeing just a slight uptick in the number of people who are traveling.”
The survey finds 90 percent of those traveling this season will go by car.
Central Wisconsin Airport Director Tony Yaron says there are 1800 enplanements scheduled for the coming week, with a high volume expected this weekend.
“What’s important about holiday travel is that a lot of people like to fly with presents, packages and so forth. It’s a good idea not to wrap those, because they do have to be inspected.”
He says travelers should remember TSA restrictions during the busy rush.
