A child with apparent development disabilities was saved from possible drowning last week by Tomahawk Police.

Chief Al Elvins reports Saturday Officer Tom Tollefson arrived at the Kings Road and Highway 51 bridge after a report of an unattended child in the water. The ten year old boy refused to come out of the water. Officer Tollefson said the child swam farther into the river, where he went underwater. The officer swam to the child and pulled the boy from under the water and swam safely with the child to shore. The child had been in the cold water about a half hour before Tollefson arrived at the scene. The boy had been in about 10-15 feet of water.

The child's father was contacted and the boy was released into the parent's custody.
