A local spokesperson says there's still time to join in a two-day celebration of Rhinelander's historic past, focusing on civic groups and clubs that helped to build the city.

Rhinelander's Historic Preservation Commission has joined with the Rhinelander Masonic Lodge to have the event October 6 & 7.

Last year's Roots Celebration focused on the businesses that built the community.

Lodge spokesperson Tony Jones says this year's event at the Masonic lodge will highlight the civic clubs and groups in Rhinelander's past...

"...we're still looking, it's an open casting call for anybody. They can contact me directly at 715-894-7231. We have 12 groups that have signed on to show what they have done in the city in the last 100 years...."

Jones says Rhinelander had a number of organizations in it's earliest days....

"...we did find some sources that indicated Rhinelander was overflowing with social groups. Elks and Moose, the Free Masons, the Knights of the Maccabees, the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows. We still have the Jaycees, Kiwanis, Rotary. I talked with the Knights of Columbus, the Daughters of the American Revolution. The skies the limit."

Jones says descendants of the original members are welcome to contact him.(715-894-7231)

October 6 from 4-8 p.m. is a reception at the Masonic Lodge in downtown Rhinelander. There will be a pancake breakfast at 8 a.m. Saturday, with the event running until 4 p.m. No admission.
