CNNF Looking For Help Clearing Trees From Trails

CNNF

The severe storm earlier this month did significant damage to some of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest and officials are hoping the public could help clean up.

Forest spokesperson Hilary Markin says firewood cutting permits are part of the routine offerings in the national forest. She says a special opportunity is being offered to permit holders...

"....to use ATV's along portions of the Flambeau trail to cut, gather and haul out firewood. They do have to go into the office and get a special permit, an addendum to the permit and then a map that outlines those areas that are available..."

Markin  says in the affected parts of the forest, their sawyers cut through a trail but they need more help because timber is still in the trail right-of-ways..

"....so we'd really like firewood cutters help us clean up those trails right away for the safety or our riders and decreasing the amount of fuel load and also gathering wood for the winter...."

Markin says more information on the permits is available through the Park Falls or Medford National Forest offices as most of the blow down was in those areas. More information is also available on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest website.
