Tighter security to protect both visitors and staff at the Vilas County courthouse was addressed this week by the county Public Property Committee and included adding more closed circuit security cameras, a single entrance staffed with security personnel for all persons entering from Court Street, and individual office alert systems.
Kozar Technologies of Eagle River will install over 40 cameras in public areas, replacing outdated ones in the existing courthouse and adding cameras to the new addition. Microphones can be added if required, they will operate 24 hours, and recordings will be kept for 121 days. Individual office security systems will be inventoried with cost estimates expected next month.
Security at the public entrance will be under Per Mar security with screening of all individuals, packages, purses, briefcases, and bags. While employees may use other entrances, those who choose the main entrance will also undergo screening. Persons with medical devices that could be affected by electronics need to show verification to security personnel.
The committee discussed how to address deliveries from UPS, FedEx, and other businesses with more information needed.
