UPDATE 2:15 p.m. The Wisconsin Public Service websitesays the number of customers affected is 2,124, with 653 in the Tomahawk area and 514 in the Minocqua area, 213 in Arbor Vitae and 153 in Hazelshurst.

As of mid-morning Tuesday, more than 6,000 Northwoods electric customers are without power after a string of storms passed through the area. The  Wisconsin Public Service website shows more than 1,900 Tomahawk area customers without power, 1,200 in Arbor Vitae, 725 in Boulder Junction, and 630 in Minocqua among other locations.

WPS spokesperson Matt Cullen says crews are making progress in restoring power, and additional outside crews have been brought in to help restore power in areas experiencing the largest number of outages. Crews will be working throughout Tuesday and into the evening to restore power to all customers.

WPS asks people to stay at least 25 feet away from downed power lines, and treat any downed line they come across as energized. Cullen also encourages everyone to report any downed wires or broken poles to us and a local law enforcement agency immediately.
