Cranberry Enthusiasts Prepare for 37th Annual Cranberry Fest

en. wikipedia

Visitors are pouring into Eagle River in time for the 37th Annual Cranberry Fest. This weekend’s event is expected to draw about 40,000 people to the area.

Each year over 300 vendors from around the country set up at the Vilas County Fairgrounds to showcase specialty cranberry foods and beers, but Chamber Director Kim Emerson says you don’t have to be a cranberry enthusiast to have a good time…

“…you head to downtown Eagle River where you will find a farmer’s market and antique market as well as a wonderful luncheon at the First Congregational Church and the Fiber Artist’s and Weaver’s show and sale.”

Emerson says planning for the annual festival is a yearlong task and takes more than 400 volunteers, but says it’s worth it to see it get bigger each year.

“…New this year is a change up on our marsh and tours. You will be going to Lake Nokomis Cranberry Marshes and they will actually be harvesting while you are on your tour. So you get to learn all about the cranberry, how it grows, how it’s harvested, how it’s used, the importance of it in our economy as well as..it is the celebration of the Wisconsin state fruit.”

Emerson says reservations for marsh tours are encouraged. She says volunteers are still needed for marsh tours and other jobs at the fairgrounds.

To sign up for a tour or to be a volunteer contact the Eagle River Chamber of Commerce.

Cranberry Fest is Saturday, October 1, from 9 to 4 and Sunday from 9 to 3.
