Governor Walker recently stopped by Rhinelander to talk about getting more college-level classes into high schools as a means of cutting costs to students wanting degrees beyond high school. That type of partnership is already underway at Crandon high school.

Crandon District Administrator Doug Kryder says when school began this semester, Nicolet College Business Instructors were leading the class. The unique partnership started as the result of the current statewide shortage of qualified high school business instructors. Kryder says they reached out to Nicolet College to see if they could help...

"....we reached out to Nicolet(College) and asked if it would be possible to teach some of our business classes that our kids could assimilate into and get college credits in the process. We worked out the partnership that they supply the professors, we supply the space and the students. It is a fantastic partnership...."

Kryder says the students get a leg up on college with this arrangement...

".....they're transcriptable credits from Nicolet(College), just like they went to the college and received the credits on their transcripts. They aren't being charged for them. The school district picks up that tab. We offer courses we obviously couldn't offer without the relationship with Nicolet...."

The School District of Crandon advertised the open position but was not able hire an instructor. At the start of the semester, 22 students had enrolled in Nicolet’s Principles of Management and Business Marketing classes.
