Creative Economy Focus Of This Week In Wisconsin

artswisconsin.org

This week is Celebrate Creative Economy Week in Wisconsin, and the leader of a top arts group says the benefits to Wisconsin's economy are many.

Arts Wisconsin and the League of Wisconsin Municipalities are hosting the week's celebrations.

Anne Katz from Arts Wisconsin says they're trying to shine a flashlight on all the creativity happening around the state...

"...in terms of arts programs, economic development programs, arts education. There's a lot of development in Wisconsin that has to do with new economy development and new economy opportunities. We promoting that during the week....."

Katz says they're encouraging local communities to do what they can to promote Creative Economy Week. Katz says there's a bill before the legislature to invest in Wisconsin's creative economy in the hope of getting more resources for the arts and creative economy development. If successful, the program 'Wisconsin Creates' will invest in downtown development projects, public art projects, cultural and other planning around the creative economy.

Another component is promoting arts and creativity in education and a third element...

"....and the third thing is infrastructure. There are a lot of amazing people doing things with very few resources. Every once in a while they find some money and resources. We're trying to get funding to benefit the communities. Community festivals, public art kinds of things, educational programs. That's the bill in the legislature...."

The Rhinelander City Council Monday approved a resolution supporting the week.
