Davenport Street Bridge Adds More To Streetscape Project

en.wikipedia.org

As Rhinelander's downtown Streetscape project continues, crews are working on the opposite side of the Davenport street bridge after they found the bridge needed more work.

One of Rhinelander's three bridges has been closed since early April as part of the project. Part of the construction was to fix the point where the bridge connects with the street near the Courtney Street intersection.

Rhinelander City Administrator Kristina Aschenbrenner says when crews checked the approach on the west side, it needed work...

".....the road had pulled away from the bridge. So we wanted to do a better approach. When we looked at the other side of the bridge it was the same issue. We're just correcting some bridge maintenance while we have the bridge already closed...."

During the west side bridge construction, one of the main connector streets around the bridge, Sutliff Avenue, was closed for a few days, creating a limited number of routes for west side residents to get around Rhinelander. Sutliff has recently reopened.

The Davenport Street Bridge is expected to be closed until early July. This week, the downtown construction project moved to Stevens Street or Business Highway 17. That street will be closed for several weeks. Courtney Street, which had been closed, has reopened.
