Democrat Van Stippen To Run For 35th Assembly Seat

VanStippen campaign

A Langlade county resident announced Saturday he will be a candidate for the 35th Assembly seat including the counties of Langlade, Lincoln and portions of Marathon and Oneida counties.

Democrat Bryan Van Stippen is the first to announce a challenge to incumbent Republican Mary Czaja.

Van Stippen lives in Deerbrook, is a lawyer, and has served on the Stevens Point city council. He says he kept hearing one issue repeatedly as he was talking to the public...

"...after I moved here, I found it very interesting that a lot of the local control, especially for the counties and municipalities was being sent down to Madison. That's something I didn't necessarily agree with...."

He also cited another local control issue, shoreline regulations, as another issue he heard about when talking to the public. He says he wants to be sure the local communities were represented. Van Stippen made announcements of his candidacy in Tomahawk, Merrill and Antigo.

Mary Czaja was first elected to the Assembly in 2012 and was reelected in 2014.
