DMV Hopes People Needing Voter ID's Do It Soon

The November election date is two months away, and a state Division of Motor Vehicles Administrator says if you need an ID to vote, it's better to get one now rather than wait.

Kristina Boardman says most voters have all the ID they need with a driver's license or Wisconsin ID. But if you still need one, she says you can get one for free at the DMV offices near you....

"....but we know that some people that are new to Wisconsin or they may not have an ID and we want to make sure they're using this time over the next couple of months to come in and take care of that..."

Boardman says the DMV has an online process that allows a full application along with a checklist of documentation you need to get the ID. She says if you wait it could cause a problem, though the state has a process that will help you get an ID if you register close to election day.

But Boardman says the best thing to do is go online or stop by the DMV offices with proper credentials and get it done with time to spare...

"....we have lots of information on our website, in fact we have a new feature that will walk you through the process of what you need to do to obtain an ID. and it will allow you to print a checklist so you know what documentation to come in with...."

One website to go to is bringitwisconsin.com
