DNR Dedicated to Teaching Adults to Hunt for Sustainability

publicdomainimage.com

Adults interested in hunting but don’t have the resources to do so can take part in a DNR Adult Learn to Hunt program this fall.

Called Hunting for Sustainability, participants learn to scout, hunt and process deer under the supervision of experienced DNR mentors. The program is in its third year and focuses on nature, conservation and field-to-table culinary experiences. Forest Research Scientist Dustin Bronson says students will learn how to handle weapons safely, find available property and how to ethically harvest an animal…

“..no hunter safety is needed to attend this class and participate. Participants can actually earn their hunter’s safety through this class, as part of this class, but no experience of any kind or prior knowledge is required to take this class.”

Bronson says pre-hunt instruction starts Wednesday, September 14 and Friday the 16 with the first hunt scheduled for Saturday the 17…

“…once participants sign up, they will get an email from me, they’ll get the addresses on where to meet. Everything takes place in the Oneida area on private property.”

Bronson says the program is free and open to adults. For more information visit the DNR’s website. A link is available on our WXPR webpage.
