DNR Wants Comment On ATV/UTV Use at Willow, Wolf River

Wikimedia Commons Markheffron2

The public will have an opportunity to review and comment on proposals that would provide access for motorized recreational vehicles at two properties in this region.

The DNR has received direction from the governing Natural Resources Board to provide all-terrain vehicle and utility terrain vehicles across the Upper Wolf River Fishery Area. The DNR also received requests to construct a multi-use parking area at the Willow Flowage Scenic Waters Area to serve snowmobilers, ATV/UTV's and boaters.

John Pohlman is a DNR planner. He says they're looking at amending the master plans at the locations to include the access points. He talks about the Willow Flowage proposals...

"....we have been asked to see about potentially adding a parking area down at the southern part of that property in what is technically known as the Dick Steffes unit, off Prairie Ridge Road to accommodate snowmobiles, ATV's and boaters accessing the Tomahawk River there...."

And in the Upper Wolf River Fishery Area...

"...adding an ATV/UTV route across the property, right at the state Highway 64 bridge area. One option would be to construct an adjacent bridge for recreational access. Right now snowmobilers are using that state Highway bridge and that is less than desirable..."

There's also a request for the Turtle-Flambeau Scenic Waters Area. Comments are being accepted via the DNR website about the proposed amendments until February 4.
