Wisconsin continues to have a strong bear hunting seasons following the conclusion of the most recent season last week.. Preliminary registration numbers indicate 4,643 bears registered.

DNR large carnivore specialist David MacFarland in Rhinelander gives the numbers...

"....our preliminary harvest numbers are 4, 643...which is close to our quota of 4,750. Those are preliminary numbers. We expect them to change a little bit, but another strong hunt in Wisconsin this year...."

The northwestern part of the state had the highest total at more than 1,600 animals. The Northwoods west of Highway 51 had the second highest total. MacFarland says Wisconsin's bear population is healthy and continues to provide more hunting opportunities than in any other state.
