Downtown Rhinelander Inc. Adjusting For 2016

WXPR

This month marks changes for Downtown Rhinelander, Incorporated, but the group's president says they will carry on.

The program began in 2006 as a majority of businesses agreed to assess themselves to fund improvements in the downtown. Earlier this year a successful petition pulled a portion of their funding. Board President Dan Kuzlik says the reduced funding means the end of paid staff, but he says the downtown board remains and will continue on... D

".....we have a strong board, we're still a 501(c)3 non-profit. We have current resources to operate at least one more year. We also have other options for grants and other fundraising activities to keep us going beyond that...."

Kuzlik says there has been interest from businesses to continue some of the events that the downtown group has established. He says a business is preparing to continue the popular "Taste Of Chocolate" event held each February.

Kuzlik says they will be more as advisors, as they have a blueprint to help the merchant interested in stepping up. He says they will also be active in the 2016 Streetscape project downtown, where the city of Rhinelander will upgrade the underground street infrastructure. Downtown Rhinelander, Inc.has been coordinating the above ground improvements as part of that upgrade.

Kuzlik says they will focus on economic development issues in the coming year.
