Duffy Talks About VA Care During Stop in Eagle River

en.wikipedia.org

Congressman Sean Duffy met with Northwoods constituents late last week at the Eagle River Inn to speak to a number of issues surrounding the current state of the government. Duffy later opened the talk for discussion, and addressed questions and concerns about veteran homelessness. Duffy says it’s a “disgrace” there are homeless service men and woman.

“…you might have an alcohol problem, a drug problem, mental health problem. and the thought process has been you have to first stop your drinking before I give you a house. If you don’t have a roof over your head you can’t deal with your alcohol issues, so what Utah said, put a roof over their head. Once they have that stability and security it’s easier to deal with life and the problems that caused them to be homeless.”

According to Duffy, another “disgrace” is the Veteran Affairs system.  He says veterans survive world tours, but die in the hands of VA care.

“…when we talk about patient advocate, you need one to navigate the dysfunction of the VA system, that’s the case in point of how crappy this thing is navigated for so many other people. You need to have a whole other group of people to help you navigate the dysfunction of the VA.”

Duffy says there needs to be whole sale changes and better money regulation.

He also spoke at the Waters of Minocqua Thursday night.
