Eagle Camp To Begin In Northland Pines Schools

It used to be called summer school but Northland Pines school board viewed “Eagle Camp” as a more friendly environment for learning for 4K - 5th grade students in the three district elementary schools.

Eagle Camp will run for three weeks starting July 25 from 9 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday. The district qualifies for free meals and there will be free breakfast and lunch at all three elementary schools plus a snack for all students.

Several board members will attend a joint meeting next month with the Eagle River city council to have an open discussion on annexing the school property into the city (it presently is in the Town of Lincoln) and the condition of Pleasure Island Road. Administrator Mike Richie indicated the school is on city sewer and water as is Pleasure island Road.

“We need to discuss the pro's and con's of being in the city and the only way to do this is for a joint meeting,” Richie said.

Board member Jim Mulleady also felt someone from the county highway department needs to be at the meeting “since all of the eastern half of the county uses the road.” Four of the five county highway committee members represent eastern portions of the county.

The board approved Troy Peiper of Merrill for the head basketball coach and elementary school paraprofessional, and Matt Weberpal of Antigo as head football coach. The district is still evaluating about eight candidates for head hockey coach.

Finally, the board approved bids for joint caulking of K-8 buildings and door replacements in Land O' Lakes and St. Germain and a spray booth for the building trades shop area.
