An unusual traffic crash severely injured of one of our national birds.  Lincoln County Sheriff's Department  officials say a car struck a bald eagle on Highway 51 in the Town of Pine River just south of Merrill Thursday.

The eagle had been feeding on a deer carcass along the edge of the road.  When the motorist crested a hill, the bird flew up into the path of the vehicle.

The animal appeared to be seriously injured causing deputies to enlist the help of the Lincoln County Humane Society. The bird was captured by a deputy and brought to the animal shelter until a volunteer for Raptor Education Group arrived to transport it to their Antigo facility.
