Eagle River Theater Shows "The Interview"

A number of Wisconsinites spent part of their Christmas watching the controversial film "The Interview."

It premiered on its originally-scheduled date at theaters in Beloit, Janesville, Platteville, Hartford, New London, Shawano, Sturgeon Bay, Sparta, Eagle River, and Ashland.  Folks also got to watch it from home, as a separate Sony Web site sold and rented "The Interview" online. You-Tube Movies, Google Play, and Microsoft X-Box were among the sites where folks paid at least 5.99 each to rent the movie for up to 48 hours.

Some just wanted to see what the fuss was about, after Sony Pictures canceled a nationwide release amid threats of violence from hackers linked to North Korea. The comedy debuted in about 300 theaters, a tenth of its original number. It featured journalists who had attempted to kill North Korea's leader.  At a Janesville theater, Rory Ruble told W-K-O-W T-V that the controversy was nothing more than a "big hype," aimed simply at trying to get folks to see it.
