Earth Day is Sunday and so is the 8th Annual Sustainability Fair at Nicolet College in Rhinelander. Coordinator Ann Munninghoff-Eshleman....
"..So what Earth Day is, is we're treating it like your annual check up for the Earth. You review the health of the Earth and try to see whether the treatment needs a little tweaking and what you can personally do as a Northwoods resident to change things and your personal treatment of the environment...."
The fair features four sessions including legacy horse logging, sustainable power from your utility, investing in a green future and green funerals.
Munninghoff-Eshelman says there will food and music and art....
"..got some painting of murals that will be on display at the food pantry, and are being painted by Connie Friesen from the Big Easel Gallery in Wabeno with the help of 75 children from the Northwoods Elementary charter school. We have more than 40 vendors. These vendors are from organizations that deal with sustainability issues. It's about 50-50. we have about half organizations and half vendors who have things for sale..."
The public is welcome at Nicolet College from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. WXPR is a co-sponsor of the event.
Another Earth Day event is Saturday April 28th at Northland Music in downtown Rhinelander when staff will recycle and restring electrical or acoustic guitars. Donations to the food pantry and Humane Society are accepted that day at the store.
