Effort BEE-gins To Restore Pollinator Populations

en.wikipedia.org

The state is holding an initial meeting soon to develop a plan to restore pollinators to areas hard hit by the loss of this critical link in the food chain.

A meeting is set for the Arlington Ag Research Station on Wednesday, August 12.

Department of Ag, Trade and Consumer Protection spokesperson Donna Gilson says it's no secret pollinators, mainly honey bees, have been declining for a number of reasons....

"....from the federal level down to the local level they've begun efforts to try to try to protect these insects that are vital to agriculture and to our food supply...."

Gilson says out of this initial meeting they hope to develop a comprehensive plan that will regrow the populations of  honey bees and other pollinators. Gilson says the meeting August 12 is mainly among the stakeholders such as agricultural representatives, environmental groups, tribal governments, UW researchers and others. But once the initial feedback comes in and the plan is writing, it will be presented for public comment.
