Electors, Town Board To Determine Three Lakes Building Funds

E.U. Demmer Library

Three Lakes voters gave mixed signals Tuesday as to the future of the town hall reconstruction which was narrowly defeated, but advised the use of tax dollars for the Demmer library would meet their approval.

Both ballot questions were advisory, but there was a clear majority favoring up to $900,000 in tax dollars for library expansion.

Library Director Erica Brewster says they were gratified with the public input, but the town board and electors will have the final say...

"....the actual allocation of funds would have to be voted on by the electorate at a public meeting because by state statute this had to be an advisory referendum there will have to be a vote by voters in Three Lakes to approve any funding...."

Brewster says the library had raised about a million dollars in private donations toward the expansion...

"....we are still fundraising and we have some fundraisers going on at this point. That money would be dedicated toward the, if the Foundation sees fit, towards the library expansion. Looking for the funding for the renovation of our 45 year old building...."

The annual town budget meeting is next week so electors will be there to vote on the budget. Brewster didn't know if the matter would be on that agenda or a later meeting.

The Three Lakes town hall question was narrowly defeated.
