Engineers to study ways to save energy dollars at LUHS

With the ultimate goal of saving $65,000 in energy costs annually over two decades, the Lakeland Union High School’s buildings and grounds committee Thursday paved the way for engineers to begin work on an intensive energy audit of the school facilities.

Committee members Thursday approved the proposed contract with Schneider Electric of Milwaukee, subject to review by the school attorney. Schneider representative Scott Mason said the “investment grade audit” would cost $28,000 and take three to four months to complete.

However, the district would not be charged that fee if it does some, if not all, of the 39 suggested building improvements. Schneider will receive a 17 percent markup, excluding materials, on all work that’s completed. In turn, the firm must show energy savings from each project.

Schneider will also guarantee a fixed price with no change orders unless the district wants additional work done.
