Find Out About The Conover-Phelps Bike Trail

ghtrails.org

Leaders of the Great Headwaters Trails are inviting the public to their annual meeting next week with the key topic being the construction of the Conover to Phelps bike trail.

GHT President Jeff Currie says crews have begun working on the first 3.2 miles segment of the 11 mile trail...

"....it includes asphalt trial right from Community Park in Conover through the town to Highway 45. It includes a hard surface compressed stone trail on the highway grade parallel to Highway 45 which is pretty much the business district of Conover...."

He says the work also includes compressed stone on the east west trail headed toward Phelps.

Currie says the asphalt parts are set to be done by the end of August.

But the remaining portion he says is a bit trickier to get done...

"....the main thing that all of that depends on is when they have the bridges ready. The bridges are being built now, but there's a six to eight week time frame for getting them complete. That will be the capstone and that won't happen until  late fall...."

Currie invites the public to the group's annual meeting Tuesday, August 18 at 6:00 p.m. at the Conover Community Park and bring a chair. You can go to the website ghtrails.org for more information.

He says donations are always welcome as they move forward to finish the remaining segment toward Phelps.
